Perfect homemade burger buns - for the lovers of burgers! Whenever we tried the shop-bought version they seem to fall apart in the middle of the meal. This tried recipe will allow you to enjoy your burger from start to finish allowing the juices to soak into the bun and for the bun to still stay intact.
250 g strong white bread flour
250 g wholemeal bread flour
7 g instant dried yeast
1 tsp salt
25 g vegetable suet (or butter, room temperature)
200 g lukewarm milk
100 g lukewarm water
1 Tbsp maple syrup
1 egg, beaten (for pre-bake glazing)
1 Tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
1. Mix all dry ingredients together. Add all the wet ingredients and mix. Knead for about 7 - 10 mins. Cover with cling film or cotton kitchen towel and leave in a warm place to rise for about 1 hr (or until doubled in size).
2. Turn the dough out on a lightly floured table and deflate. Cut into 8 equal pieces and roll into neat balls. flatten into baps. Place on a baking tray lined up with parchment paper and cover with a cotton kitchen towel and leave to rest for about 30 mins undisturbed.
3. After 30 mins of rest, delicately brush the beaten egg glaze twice on each bun and sprinkle some sesame seeds on the top. Cover with a kitchen towel and allow to rest again for about 30 mins. In the meantime pre-heat the oven to 180*C.
4. Place the tray with the buns in the middle of the oven and bake for about 20 mins - or until golden on the top. Take out and allow to rest on a cooling rack.
5. Top with your favourite sauces, toppings and a choice of vegetarian or beef burger patty and enjoy!
